The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
