The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
