Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
