Following multiple episodes of suspense, schemes and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end
Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Before long, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a surprising outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote a viewer.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the series.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, as noted by industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I want to participate once more... I doubt it would work again!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on the network. It had a different start than usual, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've murdered beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning in the episode, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants boarding a locomotive called - of course - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them destroying images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while the other simply laughed.
And one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver looked like he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," said a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," wrote another user.
However, there remained no time to focus on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. So did another, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the scene where the other players comforted the champion was "compelling television". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," he said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and the occasional surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
