Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
