A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid arguing with loved ones. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items surfaced over the break, and should you overlooked any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
